Creative Memory Scrapbooking
Creating memories on paper
One of the reasons that people do scrapbooks is because they want to preserve the
cherished memories of some great occasion, travel vacation or other
special event. In fact, a scrapbook has long been synonymous with photo albums because it is primarily filled with pictures and
special memories. One difference with a photo album and a scrapbook is the fact that you can put a whole lot more
memories in a scrapbook than just photos.
You can place not only the digital photos, but also many of the memento's that
you have collected from the event that make the occasion more memorable and meaningful.
Below are some occasions that people often create a custom scrapbook for. Read on and you might get some
great ideas on how to preserve your most treasured memories in a
custom (digital) scrapbook of your own.
Baby Book Scrapbook
An ordinary baby album will probably contain the baby's first photos and a few
notes, but a
baby book scrapbook can contain not only the first photos but also some of the special milestones
elements that the baby will go through in their first years. All the firsts that he
or she will experience in their life can be documented in a
baby book scrapbook.
For instance, you can include the baby's strands of hair after they get their first
haircut. You can bind these and then place them in a piece of see-through
archival-safe plastic bag.
Another first is the dedication and the cap or head dress and
invitations. Parents can also include copies of special documents such as the birth certificate and the baptismal
or dedication certificate.
Another great idea is to put the baby’s thumb, handprint and/or foot print on
the page as part of the background. Some will also paste a copy of the baby’s first ultrasound photo,
their first medical certificate and their first vaccination chart.
That's what is so great about a true "Custom
Baby Book Scrapbook"... You choose what is special and make it
truly tailored to the individual child.
Wedding and Wedding Anniversaries
A wedding scrapbook may
only contain pictures at the wedding but it can also include wrappers from the gifts,
note card wishes that the guests gave for the newlyweds and the gift cards that they have put on their gifts. This is one way to preserve the day not only for the newlyweds but also for their guests.
Another good idea is to document not only the wedding itself but also the days or months of preparation for the wedding. Photos
and collected embellishments can capture events like the bachelor’s party, the bridal shower and even the pre-wedding practice
and dinner.
The scrapbook should also contain the invitation for the wedding, dried flowers from the bouquet
and/or the flower arrangements that decorated the church or
location. A piece of the lace garter or even a scrap of the
material from the wedding dress is perfect if one can manage to
attach it to the scrapbook page layout.
Graduation
Another event that is always worthy of reminiscing is the graduation. It doesn't
matter if it's grade school, high school or college. This marks the ending and the beginning of an old and a new chapter in a person’s life.
A
graduation scrapbook
should contain the invitation for the event, a copy of the diploma that is usually given to the graduates, some pieces of strings from the tassles, and of course the photos of the graduates
accepting the diploma or certificate of graduation.
Pieces of the
Corsages that are dried may also be put in the scrapbook by pasting it onto a flat
paper surface with acid free paste.
WARNING: Just make sure to
isolate it from the rest of the scrapbook as the chloroform and
other elements of nature contain lignin and acids that can destroy
your photos and pages over time.
If you can, also include messages from the graduate’s classmates and friends as well as to his or her teachers. Put the messages in a kind of message board
layout.
If there are awards merited, one can also put the medals or copies of the certificates in the scrapbook. If the graduate did a special address, a copy of the speech should
always be included in the
graduation scrapbook.
